CrescentCityCyclists Google Group

For the past few months I have been experimenting with a new service called Google Groups and the CCC Board has been serving as beta testers. Although it is currentlly experiencing some growing pains and a few technical glitches, we feel that Google Groups will ultimately provide a richer online communication and sharing environment for CCC than we currently have at Yahoo Groups. Accordingly the Board has approved moving our online community to Google Groups in the near future. Our CrescentCityCyclists Google Group will host our website as well as our online discussion forum/mailing list. I have duplicated all of the current content of this website on our Google Group site.  When we are ready to make the switch, that site will replace this one.

One big advantage of Google Groups is that individual CCC members will be able to edit some of the web pages and add new pages to the website. Google Groups provides a very easy to use interface for web page creation and editing. This capability should encourage better sharing of cycling knowledge and cycling event info among CCC members.

I plan to wait until Google has resolved the current technical issues afflicting Google Groups before switching the full membership over, but in the meantime I would like to get feedback from the members on our Google Group. So please click the link above and explore CrescentCityCyclists on Google Groups. Please post any comments you have to CCC_Online, our existing Yahoo Group.

CCC Activities Calendar

Check out the new features on our Activities Calendar

The new calendar program supports a search function which will allow you to search for all rides on the calendar (both past and future) whose descriptions match specified keywords, such as the ride name, ride leader, or start location.  Look for the "Search:" text box, inside the box labeled "Jump To" (near the bottom of the calendar page in month view, or near the top right in week or day view) and give it a try!  This will allow you to find out when your favorite rides (or ride leaders) are coming up.

The calendar page also supports a nicely formated listing of rides for the current month (or week, depending on which is currently displayed) which you can print out.  Click the "Printer Friendly" link inside the box labeled with the current date  (near the bottom of the calendar page in month view, or at the top right in week or day view). There are a number of other new features including the ability to customize the calendar display to your preferences. For example, you can select whether you want the calendar to default to day, week or month view and which day you want each week to start on. To do this click the "Preference" link just below the "Printer Friendly" link mentioned above.

If you use iCal or Mozilla Calendar on a Mac OS X computer, or Mozilla Calendar or Event Sherpa on a Windows computer, you can subscribe to the CCC Activities Calendar and the club events will be automatically updated on your computer's desktop calendar whenever the calendar on the CCC website is updated.
